Is it guaranteed that I will see whale sharks?
While sightings are very common (especially from April to October), these are wild animals and no sighting is 100% guaranteed. However, Labuan Jambu is known as one of the most reliable spots in Indonesia for whale shark encounters.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No. Basic swimming skills are enough. Life jackets and snorkeling gear are provided. The water is usually calm and the activity is suitable for beginners.
Can children join the tour?
Yes, children can join, but must be supervised by parents or guardians at all times. The minimum recommended age is 6 years old.
Is snorkeling gear included?
Yes, mask, snorkel, and life jacket are usually included. You may bring your own if you prefer.
Is it safe to swim with whale sharks?
Yes. Whale sharks are harmless filter feeders, and the activity is considered safe as long as you follow the safety and ethical guidelines provided by the guide.
Are there rules for interacting with whale sharks?
Yes. Key rules include:
Do not touch, chase, or block the whale shark's path
Stay at least 2 meters from the head and 4 meters from the tail
No flash photography
Follow the guide’s instructions at all times
Is advance booking required?
Highly recommended, especially during peak season (May–September). Many operators are local fishermen, and slots are limited to keep the experience eco-friendly.
